Organize passport, visa, insurance and travel-health preparations for Tanzania and Zanzibar. Know which questions need official guidance or advice from a qualified clinician.
Passport, visa and flight documents
Check passport validity, blank pages, visa eligibility and return or onward travel documentation with Tanzania Immigration and your airline. Save an offline copy of your itinerary and keep originals accessible at entry. Our tourist visa guide links directly to the official system.
Book a travel-health consultation
CDC recommends seeing a healthcare professional at least a month before travel. Take your full itinerary, including transit countries, safari areas, mountain altitude and Zanzibar. Discuss vaccines, malaria prevention, existing conditions and prescription medicines. This article is a preparation checklist, not individualized medical advice.
Yellow fever: check your travel history
Tanzania Mainland’s Ministry of Health describes yellow-fever vaccination requirements for arrivals from endemic countries and qualifying transit through those countries. Requirements can depend on the length and location of transit. They do not mean every visitor needs vaccination. Check your complete flight route with the official guidance and a clinician; ask about the correct certificate and any medical exemption process where relevant.
Malaria and insect protection
Ask your clinician whether malaria-prevention medicine is appropriate for your route and health circumstances. Pack repellent, covering clothing and any prescribed medicines. If you become unwell during or after travel, seek medical care and mention your Tanzania itinerary rather than relying on a packing list or self-diagnosis.
Travel insurance and mandatory inbound cover
Choose personal insurance that explicitly covers your activities, medical care and emergency evacuation. For Kilimanjaro, confirm the planned maximum altitude and rescue conditions with your insurer. Zanzibar’s official inbound portal describes mandatory inbound insurance. Separately check current mainland entry-insurance requirements with the authorities and airline; rules may change and island-only advice may not cover your full journey. Do not assume required inbound cover replaces comprehensive personal insurance.
Your final departure check
- Recheck current Immigration, health and insurance instructions for the whole itinerary.
- Keep approvals, required certificates and policy documents accessible offline.
- Confirm baggage rules, airport pickup, contact details and your first overnight stay.
- Carry personal medicines and emergency contacts in hand luggage.
- Share medical needs with the team privately and confirm what support your itinerary includes.
For transfer and tour arrangements, ask Bundi’s Moshi team. For medical decisions, visa eligibility or insurance coverage, use the relevant qualified professional or official authority.
