Find Tanzania’s official visa portal, check requirements for your passport and prepare your application. Practical guidance for mainland and Zanzibar trips without approval promises.
Do you need a tourist visa for Tanzania?
The answer depends on your passport nationality, travel document and purpose of visit. Some visitors are exempt; others need a visa or prior referral approval. Check the current nationality and category rules in Tanzania Immigration’s official guidelines rather than relying on another traveler’s experience.
Where to apply online
The official application portal is visa.immigration.go.tz. Enter personal information carefully, select the visa category that matches your visit and follow the current document and payment instructions. Keep your application reference and use the official status-check service. Bundi does not issue visas or guarantee approval.
Documents to prepare
- A passport meeting Immigration’s published requirement of at least six months’ validity and one unused visa page.
- The photo and supporting documents requested by the official application form.
- Your intended itinerary, contact and accommodation details as required.
- Return or onward travel documentation; Immigration’s guidelines require visitors to show a return ticket on arrival.
- Any additional documents required for your nationality, visa category or travel-document status.
Referral applicants need a different plan
Certain nationalities and travel-document holders require referral consideration. The list can change, so check it directly with Immigration. Do not assume that an ordinary online application or visa on arrival is appropriate. Follow the published instructions on applying ahead and on avoiding non-refundable reservations before approval.
Fees, processing and visa on arrival
Check the fee and conditions for your exact category in the official system. Fees and eligibility are not the same for every passport. Immigration describes visa-on-arrival arrangements at official entry points, but do not assume you qualify. Do not treat a processing estimate as an approval guarantee or leave an application until the last moment.
Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar
Use Tanzania Immigration for visa and admission questions for your Tanzania itinerary. Zanzibar has separate inbound-insurance requirements; a visa does not replace insurance or health documents. Check both your mainland and island travel legs in our entry and health checklist.
Before you travel
Check your approval notice and passport details, carry requested documentation and recheck official rules near departure. A visa grant does not remove entry checks at the border. You can ask Bundi’s Moshi team for confirmed tour and itinerary details, while Immigration remains the authority on your eligibility and admission.
