Match your Tanzania safari dates to your interests, weather preferences and route. Understand broad Serengeti seasons without treating a migration calendar as a wildlife guarantee.

There is no one best month for every safari

Start with what matters most: a broad wildlife introduction, migration-focused travel, photography or combining safari with a climb. Serengeti can be visited year-round. Seasonal guidance helps you plan, but weather and animal movement can differ from a typical year.

June to October: a dry-season planning window

TANAPA highlights June–October as the Serengeti dry season. Discuss which park areas suit your dates and interests, and confirm accommodation early enough to understand what is actually available. Dry-season guidance does not promise dry weather every day or a particular sighting.

January and February: calving interest

TANAPA highlights January–February for calving in the Serengeti ecosystem. A trip focused on this needs the right proposed area, not simply “Serengeti” in its title. Ask your planner where the itinerary will spend its nights and whether the route can be adjusted to current conditions.

Rainier periods and flexible expectations

Wet conditions can affect driving, visibility and access. They can also change the feel of the landscape. Ask about your proposed roads, accommodation access and fallback arrangements rather than ruling out a month based on a generic calendar or assuming it is automatically cheaper.

Why river crossings cannot be scheduled

The migration is a moving wildlife phenomenon, not a daily performance. Herd location, rain and other conditions influence what is possible on a given visit. No operator can promise a crossing or schedule one for your arrival. Allow appropriate time and ask what the route offers if the hoped-for event does not occur.

Combine safari dates with Kilimanjaro or Zanzibar

The best dates for your safari interest may not match your preferred mountain conditions. Compare our Kilimanjaro seasonal guide and combined-trip planner. Add onward travel days rather than treating beach time as a transfer-free extension.

Read the northern parks comparison, then ask Bundi’s Moshi team with your preferred month and priorities for a route proposal.
