What to expect

A short but full safari through two very different parks. Tarangire is famous for its large elephant herds, which gather along the Tarangire River, as well as lions, buffalos, giraffes and zebras beneath ancient baobab trees. The Ngorongoro Crater packs the greatest number of animal species per square kilometre in Tanzania — buffalo, elephants, lions, wildebeests, zebras, hippos and rare cats such as caracals and servals, with a chance of spotting a rhinoceros. You travel in a private 4×4 Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof and an experienced guide, and sleep in a comfortable tented lodge close to the parks.

  • See Tarangire’s famous elephant herds and giant baobab trees
  • Descend into the Ngorongoro Crater, a natural wildlife haven
  • Chance to spot lions, buffalo, hippos, servals and even rhinos
  • Private 4×4 Land Cruiser with pop-up roof and expert guide
  • Stay in a tented lodge surrounded by nature
DAY BY DAY

Your itinerary

Daily game drives with your private guide, plus hotel nights before and after the safari. Drive times and wildlife sightings vary with the season and conditions.

  1. When you arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), a representative from Bundi Travel will meet you and transfer you to your hotel in Arusha town. The hotel offers everything you need for a comfortable stay, including comfortable rooms, hot water, friendly staff, a swimming pool, and Wi-Fi. You’ll spend your first night in Arusha, relaxing and getting ready for your safari adventure.

If you arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) in Nairobi, Kenya instead, we can arrange your transfer to Arusha by private vehicle or shared shuttle bus. Our team will assist you with the journey and ensure you arrive safely at your hotel.

  2. In the morning after breakfast (around 6:00 AM) your safari guide will arrive at the hotel and let the receptionist know he is waiting for you. After meeting your driver you will travel to Tarangire National Park, and by 10:30 AM you will already be on your first game drive.

In this park you have the chance to see lots of wild Tanzanian animals — lions, buffalos, giraffes, zebras and more — but above all it is famous for its astonishing number of elephants, which typically stay close to their drinking source, the Tarangire River.

This is wild nature, so the guide cannot guarantee sightings of specific animals, but he will do his best to find everything you’re looking for. Our team has its own radio channel that drivers use to communicate with other guides and collaborate on searches for rare species.

At lunch time you will be provided a meal, after which the safari continues. In the evening you will be transferred to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

FAQs

Good to know

Is two days enough for a safari?

Two days is enough to experience two outstanding parks. Tarangire and the Ngorongoro Crater are close to each other and to Arusha, so you spend your time watching wildlife rather than driving. If you have more time, our 3, 4 and 5-day safaris add Lake Manyara and the Serengeti.

Do I need to arrange my own airport transfer?

No, you don’t have to. Bundi Travel will pick you up from the airport and transfer you to your designated hotel. Airport pick-up and drop-off are included in our safari packages. Group transfers can also be arranged upon request.

How many people can fit in a safari vehicle?

All our safari vehicles are 4×4 Toyota Land Cruisers with pop-up roofs for optimal game viewing. We guarantee a window seat for every guest. • Standard vehicles seat 4 – 6 guests, plus the driver-guide. – Extended vehicles can accommodate up to 7 guests comfortably.

Will I see the Big Five?

You have a good chance. Ngorongoro Crater is one of the best places in Tanzania to see lions, elephants, buffalo and — with luck — the rare black rhinoceros. Leopards are present but shy. Sightings can never be guaranteed in the wild, but your guide will do everything possible.

What does a typical safari day look like?

A typical day starts early with a morning game drive, followed by lunch and some rest, then an afternoon or sunset game drive. Each park offers a different experience, Serengeti offers vast savannahs and big cats, while Tarangire has elephants, baobabs, and seasonal river crossings.

What if I have special dietary requirements?

No problem! We cater to vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free diets, and food allergies. Please let us know in advance so we can prepare accordingly.

What should I pack for a safari?

• Light, neutral-colored clothing – A warm jacket for early mornings and evenings – Comfortable closed shoes – Sun hat, sunglasses, sunscreen – Binoculars and a camera – Personal medications and insect repellent – A power bank or extra batteries Read More

What travel documents do I need?

You’ll need: • A valid passport (at least 6 months beyond your travel dates) – A tourist visa for Tanzania (can be obtained online or upon arrival for many nationalities) – Travel and health insurance (strongly recommended)
